Chalki.Lab

A real-world lab for sustainable island development.

Turning Chalki into a real-world model for resilient, energy-efficient, and future-ready island communities.

From energy transition to integrated model

Chalki has already demonstrated what a small island can achieve — transitioning to clean energy and implementing solutions that improve everyday life.

Chalki.Lab builds on that foundation. It brings structure, coordination, and long-term direction to the island’s development — moving from individual projects to a unified model.

Developed in collaboration with the Municipality of Chalki, the lab operates as a real environment where solutions are tested, implemented, and scaled with the needs of the local community at the center.

This work is evolving into a 10-year sustainability masterplan — connecting energy, mobility, services, and the local economy into one integrated system.

Deployed on the island

Real projects already implemented in Chalki — forming the foundation for long-term transformation.

  1. Solar Energy Infrastructure

A 1 MW photovoltaic system combined with battery storage delivers 100% clean energy for municipal operations and local energy needs, reducing electricity costs by over 90%.

  2. Electric Mobility & Charging Infrastructure

Deployment of over 15 electric vehicles across land and sea, supported by a network of 7 EV charging stations and an operational electric passenger boat — enabling low-emission mobility across the island.

  3. Smart Water & Digital Systems

Implementation of smart water management and desalination monitoring systems, alongside digital governance tools and real-time infrastructure management.

  4. Chalki Sustainability Masterplan

Design and rollout of a 10-year integrated strategy connecting infrastructure, services, and local economy into a unified development model.
