The Kalamata.Lab Innovation Center, whose establishment was formalized, 28 January 2024, through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Municipality of Kalamata, the Development Organization of Kalamata Municipality S.A. “Sustainable City,” and Pleiades IoT Innovation Cluster, aims to further support the participation of the city of Kalamata in the NetZero Cities initiative of the European Network of Climate-Neutral Cities by 2030.
Kalamata, as a city leading the Greek effort in NetZero Cities for a sustainable future, aims to address its complex challenges across all sectors to improve the quality of life for its citizens, enhance sustainability, and promote economic growth.
At Kalamata.Lab, a Smart Specialization Strategy will be implemented. This approach builds on the strengths of each region, leveraging available resources and local potential while addressing specific socioeconomic challenges — to identify unique growth opportunities. Within this framework, the Kalamata.Lab Innovation Center will act as a dynamic hub for collaboration, innovation, experimentation, transformation, and action. It will bring together diverse stakeholders, representatives of municipal services, academic, research, and development organizations, local businesses and the local community, with a shared commitment to building a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable future for Kalamata.

During the signing event for the Memorandum of Cooperation, the Mayor of Kalamata, Mr. Thanasis Vasilopoulos, stated:
